Injury Information - Headaches

Headaches from a traumatic event such as a car accident are more common than you may think. It is not uncommon
for a headache to start within minutes after a car
accident. Sometimes these headaches last for months and
even years depending on the source of the headaches. As
is normal everyday life, headaches after a traumatic
event such as a truck accident may be caused by many
different sources. It is your responsibility to report
your headaches, including their frequency and intensity,
to your medical doctor so that he or she can attempt to
locate the source of your headaches. Once the source of
your traumatic headaches is found, there are treatments
that can be administered to attempt to reduce or
eliminate your headaches.
Many of us experience headaches daily.
Headaches from accidents can be debilitating, but hard
to prove.
When
the head is directly impacted with a hard object, the
injured victim may suffer traumatic brain injury (TBI).
When the head and skull are injured from impact, the
brain bleeds and blood often pools between the brain and
the skull. This brain bleed, otherwise known as a
subdural hematoma, is an extremely dangerous condition
because it exerts pressure on the brain. This pressure
can cause post-traumatic headaches and even death.
Traumatic brain injury patients often suffer from
continued headaches even after the brain bleed
resolves. There are a variety of medications that can
be prescribed by a neurologist if you are continually
suffering from post-traumatic headaches.
Another
common cause of headaches after a Bucks County, Mercer
County or
Philadelphia car accident is nerve damage caused by a herniated disc or bulging disc in the neck.
Neck injuries such as whiplash, which is a condition
caused by stretching of the muscles, ligaments, and
tendons of the neck, can cause pain originating in the
shoulders and neck which travels up to the head.
Depending on your doctor’s advice, you may be able to
take over-the-counter pain medicine such as ibuprofen or
Tylenol for your headaches.
Unfortunately for some, headaches caused by an accident
are permanent. The brain is the most complex organ of
the body. Today’s medical science does not completely
understand how the brain works and the source of all
headaches. If you or a loved one is suffering severe
headaches as a result of a serious car accident or
truck
accident in Bucks County, Mercer County or Philadelphia,
we may be able to help you recover fair compensation.
An experienced personal injury lawyer will be able to
direct you to the proper medical treatment and
neuropsychological testing that may be necessary to
prove your headaches and head injury to an insurance
company in court. Simply provide us with your contact
information in the box on the top right of this page and
one of our client care specialists will contact you to
set up your free information gaining consultation. |
