Injury
Information - Burn Injuries

Burn
injuries often result from motorcycle
accidents and construction accidents. Other times,
negligent homeowners are responsible for fires which
cause severe burn injuries to the occupants, tenants or
guests of their homes. Burn injuries related to
accident cases can be caused by heat, fire, explosion,
friction, chemical, and scalding liquids such as water
or oil based products. Burn injury treatment is
extremely important because burns can cause infection,
scarring, and many other medical problems inside the
body. If someone has recklessly caused your burn injury
and your burn injury is serious and will result in
significant long term problems, you deserve fair
compensation for your pain, suffering and disfigurement.
Burns actually kill your flesh. There is no treatment
to fix a burn injury.
Burns
are commonly classified into three different levels
depending on the severity of the burn injury. First
degree burns are associated with redness of the burn
site and minor pain. Second degree burns cause
blistering of the skin and third degree burns cause
damage to the skin including charring of the skin and
scarring. A burn victim must be hospitalized and
treated if he or she suffers burns over numerous parts
of the body.
A burn
injury patient should be given first aid before an
ambulance arrives and takes the burn victim to the
emergency room. The type of first aid that should be
applied depends on the severity and source of the burn
(chemical burn, scalding burn, fire burn, friction burn,
etc.). At the hospital, a burn injury victim will be
given intravenous fluids to maintain hydration and
certain chemical balances in the body. Antibiotics will
also be administered to reduce infection caused by the
burned skin tissue. Pain medication will be
administered to attempt to keep burn pain manageable.
Serious burns lead to permanent scarring or removal of
the skin.
Serious
burn injuries require skin grafting and other surgeries
to remove the dead skin tissue. Dressings will then be
constantly applied and reapplied to the wounds until the
completion of the healing process. If you or a loved
one is severely burned, the injured burn victim will
probably be initially transported to the local emergency
room or trauma center. The most serious burn injury
victims are taken to regional burn centers such as
Temple Hospital, Crozer Hospital, Cooper Hospital, and
Children’s Hospital of Pennsylvania (CHOP).
Burn
injury victims deserve aggressive and competent Pennsylvania personal injury attorneys. \Burn injuries are among the most painful types
of personal injuries. The resulting scarring and disfigurement
can cause a lifetime of mental and emotional pain. If
