Watch out Philadelphia speeders…

Mar 25th, 2008 | By Michael L. Saile, Jr., Esq. | Category: Blogs, PA & NJ Speed Traps

Many people tell me how they feel free to speed on Interstate 95 in Philadelphia because they know that the Philadelphia Police and the Philadelphia Highway Patrol are not permitted under Pennsylvania law to use radar. Times have changed, well partially…

Although there are movements in Harrisburg to allow all Pennsylvania police to use radar (instead of just State Troopers) the PA legislature has not changed the law yet.

While in court last week, I confirmed with a Pennsylvania State Trooper that the PA State Police are now on full patrol of the area of I-95 from Center City Philadelphia through Bucks County, PA. In the past, PA State Troopers only patrolled the area from Woodhaven Road to Academy Road in the area.

The reason for this change appears to be due a request by the new mayor or the new police chief of Philadelphia. This makes sense. Philadelphia or some say “Killadelphia” needs to have as many of their own police on the local streets as possible. If the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania provides PA State Troopers on most other roads throughout the State, why can’t the PA State Troopers patrol this section of I-95.

  1. IN NJ, AND MAYBE THIS IS AN URBAN MYTRH, BUT IT IS SAID THAT THE STATE POLICE CAN PATROL ONLY STATE, US, AND INTERSTATE ROADS, WHILE THE REST OF THE ROADS ARE FOR LOCAL TOWNS, ALTHOUGH LOCAL TOWNS MAY PATROL THE STATE, US, AND INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS.

WHY, I DONT KNOW, YOU TELL ME WHY, YOU ARE THE ATTORNEY, WELL VERSED AND EDUCATED IN THE LAW AND STATUITES OF PENNSYLVANIA,.
