The Delaware Valley is a dangerous place to be on the road in Pennsylvania.

Delaware Valley, Pennsylvania counties (Philadelphia, Bucks County, Montgomery County, Delaware County, and Chester County) were some of the highest of all Pennsylvania counties in:   

 

  • Total Crashes
  • Traffic Deaths
  • Alcohol Related Traffic Deaths
  • Pedestrian Deaths

In 2006, there was believed to be 12,440,621 residents in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.  Pennsylvania is comprised of 67 counties.   The Delaware Valley (Philadelphia, Bucks County, Montgomery County, Delaware County, and Chester County) consists of most of the “urban” counties in Pennsylvania.  54% of the total traffic crashes occurred in only 10 of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties.

52% of total traffic deaths occurred in on 15 of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties and 46% of total alcohol-related deaths occurred in only 12 of the Pennsylvania’s 67 counties.

Philadelphia and Delaware County are among the worst counties for seatbelt use with less then 74% of people in reported PA auto crashes wore seatbelts.

Philadelphia averaged 12,458 reported auto crashes per year in the last 5 years.   This number remained consistent over the last 5 years showing no major trends of less or more accidents. 

Bucks County, PA averaged 7,121 reported auto crashes per year in the last 5 years.   Bucks County auto crashes have decreased every year since 2003.

Montgomery County, PA averaged 9,780 reported auto crashes per year in the last 5 years.   This number remained consistent over the last 5 years showing no major trends of less or more accidents.

Delaware County, PA averaged 4,977 reported auto crashes per year in the last 5 years.   This number remained consistent over the last 5 years showing no major trends of less or more accidents.

Chester County, PA averaged 4,957 reported auto crashes per year in the last 5 years.   Chester County auto crashes have decreased every year since 2003.
