New NJ law requires police to send accident reports by mail or fax

Finally, New Jersey police have been forced to catch up with technology.   Prior to this new law, people involved in a New Jersey accident would have to physically drive to the local police station during normal business hours to obtain a copy of a police accident report.    Now, thanks to the NJ legislature, police must forward a copy of the police accident report upon request.   The new law does state that the person requesting the accident report may have to fill-out a special form and pay a reasonable fee.

See the new law: N.J.S.A. §39:4-131 here:   N-J-S-A- 39: 4-131.pdf
