New Jersey Defensive Driving School May Soon Be Available On-line

A newly proposed regulation by the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission includes an on-line option for defensive driving school, in addition to the current classroom facility version of the course.  People who are required to attend a defensive driver course may soon be able to complete the course on-line, if the measure is approved.  Course providers must offer the same curriculum as is offered in the traditional classroom course, and in addition, will be required to administer a proficiency exam with a passing score of 80% or better in order for a student motorist to successfully complete the course.  This course is sometimes ordered by municipal court judges to young motorists who wish to enter into a plea bargain in a traffic offense case.

But, it is not only drivers who are “required” to take the course who benefit.  Did you know that NJ drivers can receive a two-point credit against their cumulative MVC points by attending – and successfully completing – a driver improvement program?  This allowance is available to NJ drivers only once every 5 years.  Also, significant auto insurance discounts will be realized by good drivers who complete the course.
