How do I get a copy of my New Jersey driving record?

Dec 29th, 2006 | By Michael L. Saile, Jr., Esq. | Category: Blogs, Criminal & Traffic

A common question that I ask my clients is: “How many points do you have on your driving record?”    This is extremely important because if we negotiate a downgrade in court with the prosecutor, we must know what prior motor vehicle violations and how many points are on the client’s record.

Sometimes if a driver is found guilty of the same offense twice in a certain period of time, the motor vehicle commission will issue double points (more points than the original violation!).   Other times, clients have attained the maximum amount of points permitted before their license is suspended.

You can get a certified copy of your driver history abstract for $10 by requesting a form online at:  https://www8.state.nj.us//MVC_DVRAR/AVSStart.jsp or you can visit one of the regional service centers

or mail your request with payment to:
