Are all muscle sprains and strains permanent?
Aug 29th, 2007 | By Michael L. Saile, Jr., Esq. | Category: Blogs, Common Injuries from Car AccidentsMany car accidents result in sprain/strain injuries of the neck muscles. A sprain/strain injury has 2 parts.
The Strain is an overstretching of the muscle and tendon. The Sprain component is an overstretching and tearing of the ligament.
Sprain/strain injuries are graded on levels 1 through 3. All 3 grades involve overstretching of the ligament and tearing of tissue to some degree from minor in Grade 1 to moderate and severe in Grade 2 and 3.
It is well documented in medical research that grades 2 and 3 have permanent sequelae as the tissue will not heal, but wound repair with adhesions (internal scar tissue) leaving the joint unstable for a lifetime. Current research reveals that all 3 grades of Strain leave the ligament with permanent bodily damage.
Most insurance company adjusters would argue with you, until you are blue in the face, if you claim that your sprain/strain injury is permanent. This is why you should seek an experienced and local personal injury lawyer that knows how to properly present your medical evidence to prove that your injury is permanent.
