Another stupid NJ law…

Oct 3rd, 2008 | By Michael L. Saile, Jr., Esq. | Category: Blogs

It seems recently that I have commented on this blog topic often.

This time, Governor Corzine signed a new law prohibiting the sale of flavored cigarettes. Can you believe this?

Menthol or clove flavors are ok, but any other flavor is now illegal in NJ. The idea behind this new law is that the NJ legislature feels that flavored cigarettes may attract children.

As far as I know, people and businesses in the State of New Jersey are not permitted by law to sell cigarettes to minors anyway. Putting a full ban on any sale of flavored cigarettes is absurd.

I am not a cigarette smoker, but I can imagine that some adults may want to smoke a flavored cigarette.

Why can’t an adult have the right to purchase a flavored cigarette? Is “flavor” now considered illegal contraband?

Doesn’t the NJ legislature have better things to do then continue to make nonsense laws? What do you think?

  1. i think it probaby has something to do with a battle between NJ and IFF, but I dont knoww.

Sometimes things are not what they appear to be.

Maybe it a political move against tobacco, or,IFF, battle on taxes, pollution, medical,……

It is the headline that we see,… but the regular people never really get to know what exactly is behind things sometimes.

Maybe the flavor manufacturer is a competitor to IFF.

Politics is a dirty business,.. and we just see the outcome and scratch our heads, and we are left to speculate,….. but as you said, it makes no sense to clain they would attract children to smoke,…..
