2008 – 2009 PA State Police holiday season car accident report…

Jan 9th, 2009 | By Michael L. Saile, Jr., Esq. | Category: Blogs, Pennsylvania Injury Information

According to Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner, Frank E. Pawlowski, seven people died as a result of PA car accidents in Pennsylvania between December 31, 2008 and January 4, 2009, the five days which are considered the “New Year’s Travel Period”. Of these seven fatal PA car accidents, four of them were alcohol related car accidents, according to the Commissioner.

Of the 984 PA car accidents, which were responded to by Pennsylvania State Troopers over the entire Christmas and New Year holiday season, 97 were possibly PA drunk driving car accidents. Moreover, during the holiday season, troopers issued 4,512 citations for speeding, arrested 312 individuals for DUI (driving under the influence), cited 368 people for not wearing seat belts, and issued 37 individuals citations for failure to properly secure children in safety seats.

Pennsylvania State Police urge those who are drinking to always assign a designated driver who has not been drinking to do all of the driving. Those who have been drinking should never get behind the wheel of a car themselves, as too many lives are lost because people drive after they have been drinking. They also strongly urge the wearing of seatbelts by each automobile occupant at all times. Five of the people who were killed during this holiday driving period were not wearing seatbelts.

  1. 5 of the 7 deaths were people who did not have seatbelts. i wonder was position in the car they were in, drivers seat, passenger seat, or back seat. you would think people would know to wear the seatbelts, …. even in the back seat it is a good idea, …. like in a head on collision, if a person in the back seat is not wearing a seatbelt, they could go through the windshield, but if they have it one, they wont, but will probaby break bones in neck and back, well. a broken neck is serious too…..
